Bacteriostatic Water vs Sterile Water
The chemistry difference between bacteriostatic and sterile water, why 0.9% benzyl alcohol matters for multi-use vials, and how each affects storage windows.
The difference in one line
Sterile water is water with nothing in it. Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, a preservative that inhibits microbial growth after the stopper has been pierced.

Selecting a diluent volume

Handling notes
Swab both stoppers with alcohol before every entry, never re-enter a vial with a used needle, label the vial with the concentration and reconstitution date, and hold reconstituted material at 2–8 °C protected from light.
