Lyophilization removes the variable
Freeze-drying removes the water that drives hydrolytic degradation. A sealed, properly dried vial is stable at ambient for months.
When cold chain is required
Reconstituted solutions, and any material shipped in solution, require 2–8 °C.
What over-icing signals
A supplier that insists on ice packs for lyophilized product is either over-cautious or shipping under-dried material with elevated residual moisture.
