How to Choose a Research Peptide Supplier: A 12-Point Checklist

Before you place a first order

Choosing a research peptide supplier is a technical decision, not a marketing one. Every peptide website looks similar. What actually differs is what happens after checkout — the documentation, the shipping, the response when a lot is out of spec.

Use this 12-point checklist on any supplier you're evaluating.

Documentation (points 1–4)

1. Lot-specific COA on request. Not a template. Not last year's chromatogram. The COA for the exact lot you'll receive.
2. HPLC ≥99% purity with chromatogram, method (column, gradient, detection wavelength), and integration.
3. Mass spec confirmation of the peptide's molecular weight, matching the theoretical mass within instrument tolerance.
4. Endotoxin + sterility results for peptides intended for research reconstitution.

Manufacturing (points 5–7)

1. Country and facility named. "USA" without a city and state is a claim. Named facilities are verifiable.
2. Solid-phase peptide manufacturing (SPPS) in-house or through a documented U.S. partner. Peptide manufacturing is a specialized process; suppliers that don't do it themselves should be transparent about who does.
3. Lyophilization on-site with documented moisture content on the COA. Under-dried peptides degrade faster.

Shipping & handling (points 8–9)

1. Room-temperature shipping for properly lyophilized peptides. Cold-chain is unnecessary for sealed lyo product and often signals over-cautious marketing or under-dried material.
2. Sealed, tamper-evident packaging with lot number and manufacture date on every vial.

Support & policy (points 10–12)

1. Real technical support. Send a specific method question. If you get a template reply, you have your answer.
2. Replacement policy for out-of-spec material. Every reputable supplier has one; ask before ordering.
3. Research-use-only compliance posted clearly on the site, product pages, and invoices.

Scoring

A supplier that meets 10 or more of these points is a serious research peptide company. Below 8, keep looking.
